In this course we will be focusing on Fluency of words ( Blends, Digraphs and short vowels). Focusing on Short vowel, Blends and Digraph fluency is an important way to help your emerging readers with their reading skills. Teaching your students to read with word families is a great way to increase their reading fluency.
A Consonant blend is when two or more consonants are blended together, but each sound may be heard in the blend. The most common beginning consonant blends occur at the beginning of words. Blends can also occur at the end of words as in the word “last”which is called Ending Consonant Blends.
A Digraph is two letters that make one sound. The digraph can be made up of vowels or consonants.
More Sight words are also introduced.
